Baroque Dresden and onto Prague

Woody and my sock knitting ready for our next destination Prague with stop along the way Dresden

goodbye to this golden horse and man

goodbye Berlin

going over the river spree

we then arrived in Baroque Dresden

again among incredible buildings and this town was completed in 1743 and almost destroyed due to horrific air raids in 1945. It has now risen again from the ashes in a blend of old and new.

you can see here that the creme face and roof is all new

and here the old original parts are dark solid looking

they had a museum in here

I think this pic is part of the royal palace

a walk up the street to get a closer pic past this simple fountain

The Semperoper is the opera house of the Sächsische Staatsoper Dresden and the concert hall of the Staatskapelle Dresden. It is also home to the Semperoper ballet

Dresden royal palace

zoom shot  royal palace

Zwinger palace

amazing architecture for sure

everywhere you look

hope you are enjoying all these pics lol

look at those happy men up there ☺☺

we then took a walk up to Dresden royal palace (so many palaces lol)

admired this walkway joining the 2 buildings

and look there was even a purple witch ☺☺

these next few pics are of "Procession of the royal dukes"

good info here too much for me to type

but dates are from 1127 to 1918

we then found a place to have lunch, been a busy morning

interesting light

I had a prawn salad

Paul had tuna salad

an area showing how badly destroyed buildings were.......and for no reason at all

Bild
they also have had terrible flood in 2013 and got this pic off another site

and Paul is near the river Elb which during the flood rose to almost the top of the bridge

can you imagine what the flow of the river was like.......

it is a very wide river too

and they are still repairing the top sections

we then were back in the bus to our next hotel

it was not as close to town as we had last year, but walking is good for us ☺

plan of action but we did plenty of our own touring as had been here before and loved  ☺

back to admire all the wonderful statues

and churches

cobble stone shadow pic ☺

a view over to Prague castle

our lovely comfy bed

cute little window

and the usual shower over the bath with interesting tap fittings

Vltava river which is massive lol

plenty of bridges

National theatre building ☺

we ate here last year and enjoyed again ☺☺

the church of our lady before Tyn, lovely gothic looking ☺☺

astronomical clock which we also watched as it did its thing last year along with thousands of others. More pics at end of blog lol
The clock was first installed in 1410, making it the third-oldest astronomical clock in the world and the oldest one still operating

always busy in Prague

Old town bridge tower

and this bridge can be crazy with plenty of amazing statues on our walk to catch the tram back to hotel.......

up ready for our tour day and this was the statue at the hotel.....

Prague Loreta church clock tower

A building near the castle

Prague castle into the first courtyard

view from castle area

St Vitus Cathedral

love this one

awesome door

Another snap of St Vitus

up close

snapped this rams head as we crossed a bridge

Cechuv bridge with lady holding torches

and back to the astronomical clock

which opened the little window up the top either side but very hard to see the 12 apostles going past inside ☺

Černý decided to make a parody of the famous sculpture of St. Wenceslas
Černý’s statue Horse is not an appreciation of Bohemia’s patron saint. Instead, hanging upside down from the ceiling of the passage is a horse that is obviously dead and ready to be rendered. A determined Wenceslas sits on its belly. While Černý himself does not comment on the meaning behind this humorous piece, some people claim that it criticizes Czech politician Václav Klaus, as Václav is the Czech version of the name Wenceslas

and after a very full morning we stopped for a drink

and shared a pork knuckle

walked back through town

King Charles IV

walking back over Charles bridge
the sign of the Cross statue

The Crucifix and Calvary

Santa Ana

Statue of Saints Cyril and Methodius

crowded as usual although this is light other times lol

and out for tea alone, Paul had a stew in bread roll and I had some ribs
Boy this is one long post but trying to get on with posting the trip.....hope people are enjoying so far ☺☺☺☺

  1. What a lot of sights you saw! I was impressed with the room you stayed in, very luxurious looking. You two sure do get around! ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
