More of the NZ trip with lots of walking

Hi there, Woody was checking out a place where we were going to take a nice walk....

He suddenly thought the mountain in the distance was part of our walk and opted to stay in the car.....silly Woody....or was he.....

We went on the Railway tunnel loop walk

Ah yes, one of those wonderful bridges which swings a little....

Across I went, with a request that the man did not jump up and down while I crossed......

Lovely Gorge

Oh great, there was another one of those bridges ahead....

This time he went first......

The wire mesh sure does help especially if the bridge is wet.....

Oh look there is my shadow ☺

Onwards as they say......

Plenty of foliage along the way....

Roadworks on the other side which is the State Highway 2

Flowing water.....quite noisy actually

Cars waiting, waiting....

This was part of the better bit of the walk.....let me tell you, I did not take any pictures along the next sections as was sheer drop to the right of me and on the left rocks which made the path quite narrow and I was nervous to say the least......not doing that one ever again.....

And this is the rail tunnel, which is just over 1klm long.....did I tell you I do not like the dark very much even though I like dark different type things.......

Looking back to part of the path we walked along

And I do not know how the bikers could walk with their bikes as it was real narrow.....

They said it was well lit.....well it was not!

As you walked along (me hanging on to the man) you could hear water running down the walls and on one side of the path....creepy

Eeeeek the light at the end looks so far away....

Finally out of that tunnel and must say I was very relieved.....

Bridge over the state highway

Sign on the road back to where our car is parked....and Woody waiting....

On the other side of bridge looking back at that old train tunnel

On we go....back along a nice pathway....

Lovely scenery

Looking back towards where the car is.....

Crossing the river one last time.....A good walk but wont go in that tunnel again either unless I have a very large torch.....

No sign of the tram/train coming

More of battery remains in this historic site

Just a quick look around here and did have a one on one guided speaking tour within the museum......

Back at Mount Maunganui we decided on this morning to have a walk around the base as recommended by others.....

Looking back along the beach to where we were staying way off in the distance.....

A ship was sailing by as we started this walk

We did not go up these stairs as were not climbing up to the top, just having a good walk around the base instead ☺ My knees do not fair to well on the downward climb on stairs....

Great path and lovely views along the way

Gorgeous old trees too

Looking back over the sea

And speaking of sea, we came across this sea lion......

Just baking nicely in the sun along the side of the pathway.....

I zoomed in on these rocks and amazingly, there is one sun baking just in the middle

And spied a few of these birds digging away.....quite relaxed about the humans walking by....

Looking across the sea, it was a perfect morning for this walk

Good reason not to go this way......

Along we go.....

And here is a close up of one of these birds.....

A statue which is also a light at night for the ships/boats

One of the many ships in the harbour

Locking the gate behind us.....

Plenty of sheep graze up in the mountain, but of course were camera shy today....

Mauao, meaning "caught by the morning sun" link here the-legend-of-mauao-mount-maunganui/ and how it got its name ☺

Caravan park at the base of Mount Maunganui

Last shot back at "The Mount" as locals call it.....
Hope you enjoyed these walks today and I may have a break for a day as heading down to visit my Mum tomorrow.....
take care and be back with more soon xoxoxo
