Goodbye K153 and a day out

Yes here is that beautiful steam train leaving our station

I went back down to the footbridge in the afternoon to wait and take more pictures

As you can see there were plenty of others getting close views and filming

Of course I took many pictures and love seeing them on my new computer screen saver ☺

Tooting as it got closer, oh the sound of a steam train whistle does bring a tear to my eyes lol

About to go under the footbridge

Goodbye K153...........

And the diesel along for the ride ☺

It was a brisk day but the rain was kind and stayed away, heading back to my car parked just past the first tree ☺☺

On Sunday we thought we would have a day out and about our area, just like being on holidays ☺
The man was happy because he LOVES maps lol

We have never stopped here so it was great to have a look and take a walk

The information centre building

Plenty of bird life here loving the water

One of those water hens which I always call a Pukeko (the newzealand bird)

Walking along the path and bridges

Quite cool in the shade of these trees but again no rain so a good day ☺

Could hear heaps of frogs but of course did not see one

A crane which flew off very quickly

And I noticed this sign which shows the fish you can catch so I may have to come back with my rod ☺

At the end of our walk at the fishing spot, heading back to the car parked new the information centre

We then took a drive towards the sea and stopped here

This is roughly 1 and half hours away from our home and I always love seeing the ocean

This crow was scavenging something and neat how I took the picture as it was taking off...neat ☺

This is part of an area known as the 90 mile beach, looking one way....

Then the other way, lovely
Homeward we went.....

And we were going to pass where the man works

One of the power stations in the area

Looking towards the open cut mine

One of the many cooling towers, they are HUGE

On the edge of the open cut mine

Zooming in on one of the dredgers which are also massive

The view back to this power station with 4 cooling towers and they are just like a steam train ☺

Got to love the zoom again on this camera

Now I have finally finished this little blanket for a future baby

And started this simple one......
Did you have a good weekend?
Today is sunny and quite warm which is very weird for July as is winter here and usually wearing plenty of clothes, but today I am even in a t-shirt
Thank you for dropping in ☺☺

  1. More interesting photos! Could you feel the steam from the train, Wendy? It takes me a bit longer to get to the ocean than you have to drive, but it is so worth it ! I love the colors of your blankets :) Hope your week is happy! xx

  2. You always visit such interesting places. I really liked seeing the industrial parts you shared. The steam train must have been very exciting for you to see. I'm glad you were able to go and get some great photos of it.

  3. As the wife of a retired RR engineer, we really enjoy your train photos. I love how adventurous you and your guy are! Now I want to see the beach again. ((hugs)), Teresa :-)
